DAY 1: LYON (EMBARK)Arrive at the Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, where you will be transferred to the ship.
We arrived in Lyon today after flying Swiss one stop from Chicago to Lyon via Zurich. I was able to watch the new “Chips” movie and a short nap. Arrived very early and the transfer was waiting. A bright sunny day. Looking forward the week.
DAY 2: MACON (BEAUNE)
FEATURED EXCURSIONS: Beaune, Hospices de Beaune
Our ship sailed last night from Lyon, France to Macon, France our first stop. We spent the day touring Burgundy vineyards, Beaune, France and Les Hospices. Beaune is a small town brimming with history . We learned about wine making. The monks have been making wines since the 15th century. Les Hospice has been operating since the 1400’s taking care of the poor.
DAY 3: LYON

We worked our way back to Lyon and spent the day exploring the city. “Do as the locals do” That was our city tour. Lyon is the gastronomy capital of France. We visited the market where we were able to sample, wine, cheese, and a variety of sausages. We strolled thru the historic “old town” and saw examples of medieval and Renaissance architecture and les traboules, the cities old passageways. The basilica on top of the city was beautiful.
DAY 4: TOURNON, TAIN L'HERMITAGE

Today we stopped in Tain L’Hermitage.
It is wine and chocolate country. We made a wine tasting at M. Chapoutier. It is a huge company with vineyards all over Europe and Australia. Chocolates by Valrhona. I think I tasted all the different kinds that they have.
DAY 5: VIVIERS

We spent the day in Viviers, France. Viviers climbs a hill above the river and is crowned by the 12 century cathedral St Vincent’s Cathedral. The smallest cathedral in France and it has a beautiful organ. We were treated to music by a local organist. We met the mayor and also toured a local home.
DAY 6: AVIGNON

Visiting Avignon and the Palace of the Popes. There are charming cafes and street performers in the Clock Tower Square. I ran into a display of US Army vehicles left over from WW II. I told them I was here to take possession on behalf of President Trump since they failed to make the payment. They don’t have a sense of humor. Palace of Popes had been occupied for about 100 years.
DAY 7: TARASCON (ARLES OR TARASCON)

Visting Arles, France today, where Van Gogh painted some 200 paintings. It is an ancient city boasting a remarkable collection of Roman ruins.
DAY 8: AVIGNON (DISEMBARK), TRANSFER TO MARSEILLE AIRPORTDisembark the ship and transfer to Marseille International Airport for your flight home.
Marseille, France the end of our cruise. At the airport for our flight. We will go to New Delhi, India before returning to Chicago next Sunday.
